Well Test

Webster County recommends having wells tested at least once a year to ensure the health and safety of the citizens. We offer a free well test per year for all wells located in Webster County. Wells are tested Monday, Wednesday, and Friday during regular working hours.

Grants to Counties Water Well Program

The Grants to Counties (GTC) Program was established in 1987 when our legislature passed the Iowa Groundwater Protection Act to help prevent further contamination of one of Iowa's most precious resources; our groundwater. (IDPH)

With the Grants to Counties (GTC) Program, Webster County citizens have the opportunity to be reimbursed for well-related services. 

Well plugging - up to $500
Well renovation - up to $1000
Cistern Plugging - up to $300
Well Assessment - up to $500
Shock Chlorination - up to $300

In order to qualify for grant funds, the property owner or contractor must provide the Environmental Health Officer with a copy of the paid invoice to the contractor as well as a description of work done (i.e. Abandoned Water Well Plugging Record, etc.) These must be received within 10 days of completed work. The Grants to Counties funding is limited as funding may be used sooner than the fiscal year ending. 
Any and all applications for reimbursement must be received by the Environmental Health Officer by June 10th of that fiscal year in order to be eligible for funds.   

Certified Well Contractors

In Iowa, all work that meets the definition of "well services" as found in Iowa law and Iowa Administrative Code must be performed by an Iowa DNR Certified Well Contractor, or by the land owner.
