Program Information:

As the I-Smile Coordinator for the Webster County Health Department, Cindy Partlow, RDH, offers dental screenings and preventive fluoride varnish to children and pregnant women enrolled in the WIC and MH programs, as well as pre-schools.  She follows up with families after these screenings to be sure they are aware of immediate dental needs.  She also assists with setting appointments and helping clients overcome language and transportation barriers.  She works with numerous community funding sources to provide these services.  These groups include, but are not limited to:  Head Start, Building Families, Linking Families and the United Way.

I-Smile @ School

I-Smile @ School is a school-based dental sealant program, which is an important and effective public health approach in promoting the oral health of children and adolescents. Eighty to ninety percent of dental decay in children ages 5 - 17 occurs in the pits and fissures of teeth, mostly on the chewing surfaces. Placing dental sealants on molar teeth significantly lowers the probability that decay in those teeth will occur.

The cost of preventing tooth decay by placing dental sealants in children is much less than the cost of treating tooth decay, and the savings realized over a lifetime can be substantial. According to the Surgeon General Report, there is strong evidence supporting dental sealants and community sealant programs for the prevention of dental decay, particularly for high-risk children.
